Alcoholism destroys lives.
I should know, my parents were alcoholics and it took both of them away from me at a young age.
In 2020, the Center for Disease Control issued a report saying excessive alcohol use causes about 178,000 deaths each year.
That same year, the Drug Enforcement Administration stated in their Drug Fact Sheet “No deaths from marijuana overdose have been reported.”
178,000 vs. zero deaths per year.
Yet, you can find alcohol in practically every grocery and convenience store across the nation.
Cannabis? If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere it’s legal, you’ll have to travel to a special store to buy it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying alcohol is bad. I’m saying alcoholism is bad.
How about we legalize cannabis, then check back on those alcohol mortality numbers in 10 years?
I have a feeling I know the outcome.

This is something that is near & dear to my heart. I’ve lost family members & friends far too early.
During the heart of the pandemic and the fallout that occurred afterwards, I too struggled with my own alcohol consumption at times.
Thankfully, I never hit a true rock bottom. I had a wonderful girlfriend/fiancee (whom I know call my wife). And I was able to reconnect with cannabis in a very meaningful way…growing it myself.
After being raided over approximately 1oz of flower in 2012, I never thought I’d make a living working in cannabis. It’s now been almost a decade. When I finish a long day of work, caring for my plants is among my top priorities.
I still enjoy my bourbon or a glass of wine but I love hearing similar stories like mine paired with seeing statistics like these. It’s a magical plant and nobody should be denied access.
I believe many people are using alcohol to treat medical issues, whether that’s depression, anxiety, pain, sleeplessness. And for all of these, cannabis is such a better option.
