A number of years ago, out of sheer coincidence, I ended up having tea with then Prince Charles of England. I was living in Portugal building a garden for an interdisciplinary arts school, and the owner of the school was an acquaintance of Prince Charles. She wanted to explain her vision for the school to him, so he invited her for tea and she took me along.
He was a very gracious man, but the thing that impressed me most was his love for nature. He gave us a personal tour of his gardens and even showed us a small building in the gardens that he used for meditation.
The building was constructed entirely of natural materials found from his land. It was an incredibly peaceful place, a sanctuary in the middle of his gardens. I’ll never forget the experience. He was kind and generous during the visit and sent us away with organic chocolate and tea as gifts.
I heard that now King Charles is reportedly using medical cannabis to alleviate symptoms of cancer. Having met him, I definitely believe he would, and if so, it’s wonderful news.
It’s true that the king has little power to dictate policy, but he’s a very influential figure and I hope his acceptance of medical cannabis will influence change in the UK for the millions of citizens who need better access, cheaper medicine, and the right to home grow.
The king is a fine gardener and I'm quite sure he could grow some excellent cannabis at home. I would love a chance to meet him again to discuss cannabis cultivation.
Heck, maybe we’ll even smoke a joint this time. I wonder if he prefers sativa or indica varieties?
